Obituary Preview: MARSHALL - Wayne Walter Scheel age 91 of Marshall, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at home with his family by his side. He was born on August 17, 1932, in the Township of Deerfield, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Smith) Scheel. He married Ruth Dahl on May 18, 1957, at St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield. Following graduation from Deerfield High School, Wayne entered the U.S. Army. He was a jack-of-all-trades, demonstrated by the various occupations he had throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; daughters, Rachel (Mike) Beck and Lori (Daryl) Schultz; grandchildren, Hanna and Kristian Schultz;brother, Stanley (Carol) Scheel; and sister, Erma Kessler.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, LeRoy Kessler; and granddaughter, Kristina Schultz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at ST. PAUL’S LIBERTY LUTHERAN CHURCH, Deerfield. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow the service in the church cemetery.Memorials can be made to the St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church Cemetery Association, Circle of Love, or Restoration Fund.

Obituary Preview: MADISON- Mary L. Cooper (Reeves), age 75, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 30, 2024. Born February 2, 1949, to Egbert M. “Pud” and Loraine I. (Ballweg) Reeves, Mary grew up attending St. Joseph’s Catholic School before moving on to graduate from Marshall High School in Marshall, Texas in 1967. The following year, on Jan. 6, 1968, Mary wed her high school sweetheart, William A. “Bill” Cooper, in Marshall, Texas and that fall Mary welcomed their son, William A. “Buddy” Cooper Jr., while Bill was touring in Vietnam. Following the war, Bill was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where Mary, Bill, and Buddy lived for nine years. Mary frequently and fondly recalled the Volkmarches, camping, and square-dancing trips they took all over Germany and western Europe during their time overseas.

Upon returning Stateside, they briefly settled in Alexandria, Louisiana, before ultimately establishing roots in Wisconsin in 1990. In 1996, Mary celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, Victoria “Tori” Cooper. Later, in 2007, she became an adopted mother figure to Gina Guerrero and Laurence Roldan, and a grandmother to their then-two-year-old daughter, Joanna Roldan-Guerrero, then Mauricio Roldan-Guerrero in 2008 and Laurence “Adiel” Roldan-Guerrero in 2010. Meanwhile, while working for the United States Attorney’s office, Mary returned to school, earning her bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in 2007 and her master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in 2009 before retiring in 2012. Throughout her retirement, she and Bill spent much of their time together RVing, attending Tori’s athletic events with Tori’s mother, Liz, and spoiling their grandchildren whenever possible. After Bill’s death in 2015, Mary spent much of her time with Tori and Liz, enjoying life and living to the fullest.

Mary is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Tori Cooper of Madison; son, William (Susan) Cooper Jr. of Garland, Texas; brother, Charles (Mary Lou) Reeves of Marshall, Texas; brothers-in-law, Carl (Mary Jo) Cooper of Bryan, Texas, and Mike (Cindy) Cooper of Farmers Branch, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mary is further survived by her special extended family, Elizabeth “Liz” Kalupa of Madison, Laurence and Gina Roldan-Guerrero and their children, Joanna, Mauricio, and Adiel of Middleton, Wisconsin; Helen and Paul Wagabaza of Middleton, Wisconsin; and Renee and Horice Bridges of Madison, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Donald Reeves of Marshall, Texas; parents-in-law, Carl and Helen (Sterns) Cooper of Longview, Texas; and loving husband, Bill Cooper of Madison, Wisconsin.

Services will be held in both Madison, WI and Marshall, TX.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Reception/meal will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at 5529 Gettle Ave, Madison with an Irish Send-Off (including alcohol) for both Bill and Mary.

A second service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 N. Alamo, Marshall, Texas, with a reception in the parish hall following the service.

Obituary Preview: MADISON – Sally G. Sadler, age 90 of Madison, passed away while surrounded by her family at SSM Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Sally was born on June 11, 1933, in Ellisburg, NY, the daughter of Ambrose Serviss and Louise Dunway, she was raised on a family farm in Evans Mills, New York, by her adopting parents, Merle and Gladys Adams.

Sally married Basil S. Sadler, and together they had five children. They moved to Madison in 1954, where she worked at Mendota Mental Health Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1995.

Sally enjoyed working in her flower gardens and taking care of her grandkids. She loved being a grandma.

Sally is survived by her five children, Michael (Nancy) Sadler, William (Heidi) Sadler, Debra (Richard) Gower, Robert (Lynn) Sadler and Jane (Todd) Klinger; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandchildren, Julie, Jenny, and Jessica.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4058 Lien Rd., Madison, with private entombment at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK MAUSOLEUM, Monona, WI.

Obituary Preview: Patricia “Patti” Ann Carroll (Schappe), passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Madison, after a series of complicated illnesses. She was 65 years old.

Patti was born on November 17, 1958, in Beloit, WI. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dave; two daughters, Amy (Bradley) Schermetzler and Allison (Matthew) Manguso; and three grandsons, Matthew, Jack, and Beckett. She is also survived by her father, Jim Schappe; her brother, Al (Teresa) Schappe; her sister, Lynn Grady; and her brother, Steve Schappe; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Schappe; her brother-in-law, Michael Grady; and her beloved dog, Zack.

Patti was an avid gardener who prided herself on her beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed walking for exercise, cooking, and reading. She had a love for all things HGTV and enjoyed decorating and staging her home after being inspired by the likes of people like Dave and Jenny Marrs from the show “Fixer to Fabulous”. She was also fond of many Lifetime and Hallmark movies, and was frequently amused by their insane plots, a joke she often shared with her daughters.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staffs at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Prairie Ridge Hospital in Columbus, Select Specialty Hospital in Madison, and especially Meriter Hospital in Madison, who assisted the family with such care and grace at the end of Patti’s journey. We are so thankful to those of you who helped us throughout this difficult period.

Obituary Preview: Kathleen (Kathy) Virginia Blaney passed away on March 13, 2024, in Cambridge, Wisconsin, at Our House Assisted Living, at the age of 77. She was born on September 22, 1946, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Kathy is survived by her son, David (Deb) Blaney; daughters, Autumn (Jason) Koehler and Dawn (Rob) Malizia; grandchildren, Sierra (Clinton), Kiana, Megan, Connor, Marlee, and Sammi; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Owen; brother, Joe (Sue) Galloway; and sister, Jane (Gary) Blankenheim.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Virginia Galloway (Latham); and sisters, Delores Smith (Galloway) and Virginia (Gary) Blaney.

Kathy pursued higher education later in life and became an LPN at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton. In her earlier years, she worked as a waitress to support herself and her children.

Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she enjoyed reading and crocheting in her free time. She also enjoyed time with her faithful dog, Teddy, and her lifelong passion of gardening.

Though Kathy tended to shy away from social events and keep to herself, when she felt comfortable her sarcastic sense of humor, with the occasional ‘Bite Me’ and awkwardly hilarious answers to board games, provided her family with a view that only a few shared.

In accordance with Kathy's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. Obituary Preview: On March 12, 2024, John Kreuser, age 70, passed away from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He passed away in his apartment at Capitol Lakes Independent Living in Madison, Wisconsin. John is preceded in death by his wife, Colette (Shelton) of Mauston, WI, his parents Ruth and Robert Kreuser of Muskego, WI, brother Fred Kreuser of Delafield, WI, and brother-in-law, John White of Brookfield, WI.

Surviving John are family members Michael (Gwen) Kreuser, Stephen Kreuser, Katherine (Doug) Lyman, Roberta (Todd) Cook, Peter (Tammy) Kreuser and Christine White, and many friends. He was a favorite uncle to 28 nephews and nieces, and a role model to all. He was also a source of knowledge and wisdom for his friends and family members. John had a sharp mind, a sharp tongue and a witty and silly sense of humor. John received a BS in Accounting from University of Whitewater and an MBA from University of Wisconsin, Madison. “Go Badgers”

Among many of his jobs were Allis Chalmers, Barron Company, Ford Motor Co. and American Family Insurance.

John loved the outdoors especially turkey hunting in Mauston and deer hunting and fishing in Bark Bay on Lake Superior, and fishing in Fort Myers, Florida. John also loved to play golf at every opportunity with many friends and family members.

After Colette’s passing, John developed a special relationship with Lorie Gedye which continued until the end of his life, she brightened John’s every day.

While the end of life is sad, John had expressed his wishes for the end of his life. These wishes could not have been realized without the dedicated support and care provided by Agape Services- 24/7 caregiving, Agrace Hospice and Baird Financial Investment and Trust.

In addition, John’s sister, Kathy and friend, Lorie provided John with extraordinary care and comfort in his last several years.

A Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Park Hotel on the Square - 22 s Carroll St., Madison WI., A program will begin at 4:30. Refreshments and food will be part of the Celebration.

Obituary Preview: Betty Jane Sanders “BJ”, formally of Charlotte, NC, passed away March 11, 2024, in Marshall, WI. Betty was born Nov. 18, 1927, the oldest daughter of Glenn and Esther Sanders.

She graduated from Portage High School in 1945. Betty was employed with Eastern Airlines, retiring in 1983. Later, she was employed with the Mecklenburg County Police retiring in1993.

Betty was a kind and generous sister, aunt, and friend. Betty is survived by sisters, Pat Johnson of Madison, WI, and Dixie Connors of Emeryville, CA; nieces, Shawn Connors, Lisa Connors, and Michele Cooper; and nephews, Dan Johnson and family and Mark Johnson and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Esther Sanders; and brothers, Kenneth, LaVerne and Robert.

Obituary Preview: We unexpectedly lost our rock, Peter Steven Ansay, age 56 of Madison, Wisconsin on March 7, 2024.

Pete is survived by his long-time partner of 19 years, Brenda Kirschbaum; his parents, Paul and Sarah Ansay; his sisters, Natalie (Paul) DeCarlo and Susan Ansay; his stepchildren, Stephanie (Cary) Lawson and Michael (Chloe) Groom; and 10 grandchildren.

Pete grew up in Verona, Wisconsin and had a great childhood with a dream of being a kicker on a football team. He traveled with his family and enjoyed playing video games. He had a passion for automobiles and all things with 4 wheels. Pete went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in engineering at the University of Wisconsin Platteville. Pete’s jobs took him to many unique places in the world. He was an entrepreneur at heart, owning his own video store at one time. Most recently Pete worked as an auditor for the State of Wisconsin. He was devoted to his job and worked hard toward his goal of retirement and owning a classic red Porsche sports car. In his free time, Pete enjoyed working on cars, going to car shows and craft fairs and taking long walks with Brenda.

Pete was a loving and devoted partner to Brenda who he met at Ho-Chunk Casino while playing Blackjack. Both have been Pete’s passion since that first meeting. He enjoyed cheering on the Badgers and Packers and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Pete was extremely compassionate and loyal to all. He was always ready with a listening ear, sound advice and a reassurance that everything will be fine, fine, fine. Pete had a silly side. He took pleasure in a practical joke, had a quick wit and fun sense of humor. His laugh was infectious. It often started with a grin, followed by a giggle and crescendo to a cackle making us all laugh even more!

Pete’s unexpected passing has left a void in the hearts of all that knew him. He is loved deeply, will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered for his kindness and compassion. Pete has left us and this life on earth way too soon. May Pete speed off into the sunset in his red sports car with a reassuring wave and a grin as he finds his final peaceful rest. We love you past the moon and miss you beyond the stars.

Obituary Preview: MADISON – Eric James Day, age 43 of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 2, 2024. He was born December 5, 1980, the son of Dennis and Jo Ellen (MacLeod) Day.

Eric loved spending time with family and his son Stuart. He spent most of his time outside, camping, listening to music, and playing with his baby cousin, Lachlan.

Eric is survived by his son, Stuart; his parents, Dennis and Jo Ellen Day; brothers, Steven (Angie) Day and Billy Day; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; nieces, Kalee, Maeson, Adria, Rosa and Jazmine.

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stuart and Dorthy Day, William B. MacLeod, and Carol and Bun Harris; his aunt, Diane Podebradsky; uncle and aunt, Gary and Jean Day; and cousin, Candice MacLeod.

Eric was a very loving son, brother, father and friend. He will be missed by many.

Obituary Preview: ARLINGTON, WI - Stan L. Sitts passed away at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena, WI, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at age 83. It was exactly one year since his wife Shirley died on February 28, 2023. Stan Sitts was born in Bloomington, WI on July 5, 1940, to George and Delphine (Ohlert) Sitts. He attended Bloomington grade school until 6th grade when his family moved to the country. He attended grades 7-8 at Budworth Country School in rural Lancaster. Upon completing grade school, he went to Lancaster High School and graduated in 1958. He entered the U.S. Army and trained at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. He was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany (SW in the Rhineland/Palatinate region which borders Belgium, Luxembourg, and France) and served “2 years and 2 days.”

Stan met his wife Shirley Ann Carlson at a young people's group at Bethel Lutheran Church and they were married there on August 10, 1968. They built a house near Lake Kegonsa outside of McFarland where they raised their three sons, Todd, Shane, and Erik.

After the army, Stan graduated from Devry Institute of Technology in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering in November 1970 and worked for 9 years with the Berg Company in Monona, WI, traveling the U.S. where he installed large liquor control equipment.

Some of Stan's most rewarding work was during the 10 years he was with The University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Space, Science, and Engineering department where he worked with weather satellites and flew to California where they were launched. After his time at UW-Madison, Stan worked in the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years with processing equipment until his retirement.

Stan enjoyed fishing, state parks, nature, apple orchards, art shows, Madison’s annual Taste of Madison, chocolate, and licorice. He dearly loved his dog Cinnamon who went everywhere with him. Stan was never in a hurry; he had a slow meandering saunter, a smile on his face, and loved to tease others. He was quiet, loved good food, and public TV, and rarely missed “60 Minutes.” He had an inquisitive mind and spent hours on the computer. He was very thrifty and loved a good bargain. He enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida.

He is survived by his sons, Todd (Martina) of Fitchburg, Shane (Kelly) of Fairborn, Ohio, and Erik (Jean Gray) of Deerfield; two granddaughters, Gabriella, and Sofia; five step-grandchildren; his sister, Dixie and brother-in-law, Paul Matt of Madison; brother-in-law, David Maughan of Dodgeville; sister-in-law, Nola Sitts of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his friend, Bonnie Felton of Pardeeville, WI; and his dog, Cinnamon, a combination of Shih Tzu and Yorkie that weighs 5 pounds and looks like a peanut in Stan’s arm.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Carlson) of Jefferson, WI; his parents, George and Delphine; a brother, Jim; a niece, Kristalyn Sitts of Lancaster; and a sister, Ila Maughan of Dodgeville.

Obituary Preview: SUN PRAIRIE – Paul D. Lang, age 64, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 19, 2024. He was the first son of Doug and Patt Lang in Alma, Mich. He attended Sun Prairie High School and graduated from the U.W. Madison. After college he moved to Texas. He married Cheryl Orfan of Sun Prairie, Wis. He loved sports, fishing, playing cards, the Packers, his Dallas Mavericks, and COOKING!

He is survived by Cheryl, Keller, Texas; daughter, Melissa (Travis) Mosely and grandson, Hudson, Castle Rock, Colorado; son, Joseph Lang, Saginaw, Texas; sisters, Diane Pinnow, Jefferson, Wis., and Jodie (Tom) Grebe, Madison, Wis.; brothers, Steve (Cathy) Lang, LaGrange, Ky., and Jeff Lang, Sun Prairie, Wis.; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Obituary Preview: MIDDLETON - Lawrence “Larry” Kampe was called to his eternal home on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1935, in Tinley Park, Illinois, the son of Theodore and Augusta Kampe. He married Barbara Kampe on August 23, 1958. Barb preceded him in death on February 1, 2024.

Larry grew up in a German farming community. He was a Cook County spelling bee finalist and frequently shared his lifelong love of words with his grandchildren. Larry attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas where he met Barb. After receiving his associate degree, Larry joined the Army and was stationed in Japan at the end of the Korean War. With three children in tow, he returned to school earning his accounting degree at UW Madison and enjoyed doing taxes for many family and friends. Larry was generous with his time, talents, and lived for the Lord.

Larry is survived by his sister, Myra (Paul) Gregor; his children, Laurie Van Haren of Middleton, Mark (Paula) Kampe of Middleton, and John (Amy) Kampe of Neenah; grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Volp, Ashley (Tom) Fritz, Danielle (Marty) Wernimont, Joshua (Kate) Kampe, Cody (Abbey) Van Haren, Caitlyn Kampe, and Benjamin Kampe; great-grandchildren, Roman and Wesley Fritz, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Mason Volp, Grayson Kampe and another Van Haren great-grandchild is on the way. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to Barb, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arnold and Hilbert Kampe, and his sister Irene Klain.

Obituary Preview: In loving memory of Debborrah Kay Jessup, born on October 8, 1951, and departed from this world on February 14, 2024, at the age of 72. Debborrah, fondly known as "Tommy" during her childhood, brought a vibrant and unique presence to the world around her.

Born in Portage, Wisconsin, to Harley "Bud" and Betty (Marshall) Evans, Debborrah spent her early years on a farm, sharing sweet moments with her siblings. She graduated from Portage High School in 1969 and later married Richard Jessup on August 22, 1970, at St. Mary's Church in Portage.

Debborrah and Richard co-owned and managed a Country Kitchen restaurant in Portage for many years. Her hardworking spirit continued as she later worked for Madison Newspapers and Comfort Keepers, finally retiring at the age of 70.

Debborrah's life was a tapestry of passion, drama, strength, and humor. She found joy in people watching at Walmart and bird watching, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Through love, laughter, and occasional theatrics, Debborrah created unforgettable moments that will forever live on in the hearts of those who shared in her journey.

Debborrah is survived by her children, Jamie (Vicki), Seth-Pray, and Whitney; grandchildren Nathan and Nadine; sister, Barbara Gaffney; brother-in-law, Tom Jessup; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Odene Almerli, Sue Thiessen, and Ken Evans; niece, Carrie Mickelson; along with other dear relatives.

Honoring her wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Instead, a "Celebration of Life" will take place later, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together and share memories of the remarkable woman who touched their lives. Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts that we, the daughters of Uma Sil, announce the passing of our cherished mama and nana on February 13, 2024. At the age of 68, Uma's passing was unexpected, following an abrupt and brief illness over two weeks and has cast us into profound despair, leaving our hearts shattered by an overwhelming wave of anguish and loss.

Uma is mourned by her two daughters, Rupa (married to Tyler Wood) and Priya (married to Todd Halverson), and her adored grandchildren, Julian (19) and Tally (9) Wood. Uma also leaves behind her beloved cats, Peter and Ollie, who provided her so much light and love.

Born on July 27, 1955, in Mettur, India, Uma's early years were marked by her strong spirit, fervent passion, and innate curiosity. At the young age of 18, she embarked on a brave journey to the United States, embracing a new culture and traditions, far removed from her roots. She was a trailblazer in envisioning grand dreams, a legacy from which her daughters draw immense inspiration.

Uma's leadership and ambition shone through her endeavors, including her pursuit of opening her own restaurant, a dream unfortunately curtailed by her ongoing battle with rheumatoid arthritis.

Uma was not just our mother and nana; she was our constant companion, with whom we shared countless conversations each day. Her vivacity, infectious laughter, warm embraces, along with her exceptional culinary skills will be dearly missed. Her generosity and readiness to help anyone in need were her defining traits. Uma's legacy as a teacher and mentor permeated every aspect of her being, continuously imparting invaluable lessons on life, resilience, and the power of gratitude to all who knew her, right up to the hours before her passing. As our mentor, she imparted wisdom on meditation and gratitude, teachings that we will carry forward.

Uma navigated her life with unwavering conviction and a profound adherence to her beliefs, manifested in her every action, from the significant to the mundane. This included her conscientious efforts to minimize her impact on the environment, reflecting her deep commitment to reducing her carbon footprint. Her teachings and way of life remain a beacon of inspiration, guiding us to live with purpose, compassion, and an enduring respect for the world around us. Her determination and kindness live on in her children and grandchildren.

Our mama’s laughter, a beacon of light in any darkness, will be deeply missed. Unbeknownst to her, her natural wit and humorous observations were as infectious as they were unintentional, endearing her even more to those around her. The joy she brought to our lives will forever be cherished and remembered.

He was born on March 7, 1993, in Madison, Wis., the son of Alice (Smith) Gallagher and the late, Kurt Gallagher. Jesse worked as an over-the-road truck driver, most recently for Magsamen Trucking, and several positions within the monster truck industry.

Jesse loved to travel, ride his Harley, captain his boat, and get his hands dirty with his monster truck family. Jesse had a big heart and helping hands while providing comic relief to everyone he touched in his life’s journeys.

Obituary Preview: Barbara Ann Kampe was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 1, 2024. She was born on March 1, 1933, in Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Justus and Olga Rathjen. She married Lawrence “Larry” Kampe on August 23, 1958.

Barb attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas where she met Larry. Barb completed her schooling at UW-Stevens Point and was an elementary school teacher until she became a mother. Her most important job was raising her three children and fostering a loving, Christian home. She loved music, painting, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barb is survived by her husband of 65+ years, Larry; her sister, Grace (Jim) Timm of Tempe, AZ; her children, Laurie Van Haren of Middleton, Mark (Paula) Kampe of Middleton, and John (Amy) Kampe of Neenah; grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Volp, Ashley (Tom) Fritz, Danielle (Marty) Wernimont, Joshua (Kate) Kampe, Cody (Abbey) Van Haren, Caitlyn Kampe, and Ben Kampe; great-grandchildren, Roman and Wesley Fritz, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Mason Volp, Grayson Kampe and another Van Haren great grandchild is on the way. Obituary Preview: WINDSOR, WIS. - Kathryn P. "Kathy" Seifert, age 82, passed away on January 11, 2024, at UW Hospital in Madison, Wis. She was born on August 6, 1941, in Madison, to Warren L. Seifert and Marie A. (Schwenn) Seifert. Kathy was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, partner, and friend.

Kathy grew up in the Schenk-Atwood neighborhood and attended Madison East High School, graduating with the class of ’59. She attended UW-Madison, receiving her teaching degree and was a teacher for the Sun Prairie School District. She returned to UW-Madison and received her master’s degree in social work in 1974. She worked as a Senior Social Worker for Dane County Human Services. First in child protective services, finishing the last few years in foster care licensing and consultation. She retired in 1999. Kathy was a fierce advocate for the families she worked with. She worked hard to make sure the kids in her care were safe and protected. Many of the children she worked with have stayed connected with her to this day.

Kathy was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Church in Madison. Her faith and belief in God were especially important to her and this was reflected in how she lived her life. Kathy was highly active in the church, participating in the choir, playing in the recorder group, assisting with communion, attending the women’s retreats, serving on church council and so much more. As per her wishes she will be laid to rest in the Luther Memorial Columbarium.

Kathy was a very caring and generous person and spent her life helping other people. She took people into her home, lent people money, helped people find places to live or get a car, but most of all she offered her love and support to those who needed it the most. There are many people who would tell you that she literally changed their lives for the better.

The arts, especially music and the theater, were particularly important to Kathy. She shared this love with her children and her grandson, Ryan, by taking them to American Players Theater, the Overture Center, to see the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corp, and to numerous other concerts and performances throughout the years. She made sure everyone got to play an instrument and instilled a love of music and the arts in all of us.

Kathy was a proud member of the Madison Elks Lodge #410, the Red-Hot Mamma’s red hat lady group, and the Madison and Deforest Senior Centers. She loved to play games, especially Euchre and Bridge, and spent many wonderful hours at the Elks Club and the DeForest Senior Center showing her skills at these games. She was an outgoing, gregarious, funny, smart, beautiful person who made the world a better place and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Our family would like to give special thanks to her dear friends, Joan Murray and Howard Czoschke for all the love and support you’ve given her, especially the past few years when she moved from Madison to Windsor. All the times you spent with her and all the rides and help you gave her were greatly appreciated, especially by her. We would also like to thank her primary physician, Dr. Lisa Grant, for the exceptional care she received over the years. Additionally, we would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Wright, Dr. Charles Weber, Dr. Art Walaszek, and Dr. Giorgio Gimelli for keeping her going even longer than she thought possible.

Marilyn is the daughter of Ernest and Bertha (Fenton) Patterson. She grew up in Trenton, MO where she graduated from Trenton High School in 1954. She attended nursing school at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO, graduating in 1958. She worked as a registered nurse at Research Hospital and became a nursing instructor.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Paul Fogle on December 18, 1959, in Kansas City, MO. They had two children, Kimberly Ann and Gregory Todd. They remained married until his death in 1983 in Ottawa, Kansas. In 1990, Marilyn married Bill Seymour and they lived in Ottawa until his death in 2010. That same year, Marilyn relocated to Cedarburg, WI to live near her daughter. In May of this year she moved to Sun Prairie, WI.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kim (Randy) Roupp of Sun Prairie, WI, and her son, Greg (Laura) Fogle of Bella Vista, AR. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren: Kelsey (Jon) Laager of Sun Prairie, Jordan (Grant) Kula of Sun Prairie, Madison Roupp (fiancée Aaron) of Madison, WI, Grant (Abbi) Fogle of Alamogordo, NM, and Chase Fogle of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by three great granddaughters – Hailey Laager, Emma Laager and Remi Kula; her sister, Connie (Jack) Potter of Nashville, TN; and two nieces, Amanda Gibbs of Nashville and Malinda (Drew) Wilkinson of Marietta, GA.

“Bacaw” as she was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, will be greatly missed. She was a fun-loving grandmother who cherished visits by her family and friends. A gathering to celebrate her life will take place this summer where she will be laid to rest at Mt Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg, Kansas.

In her earlier years, Jean was on various dart and pool leagues around Madison. She loved singing karaoke, dancing, sitting by the pool, and holidays and picnics with family.She made good friends quickly wherever she went. Jeanwas a proud stage 4 lymphoma cancer survivor.

Don was born on February 25, 1949, in Augusta, Wisconsin, the son of Royce and Mabel (Lovicott) Wampole. Don married the love of his life, Vivian (James) Wampole, on May 26, 1989, and was married until her death in 2022. Don worked for McKay Nursery Company for over 41 years, retiring in 2009. During retirement he spent his time driving school bus, fishing with his grandchildren, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved cheering on his beloved Minnesota Vikings, THE Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. In his free time, he loved to garden and was always proud of his produce and flowers. He also liked “going fishing” (Friday night fish fry) and having breakfast with his friends and co-workers.

Don is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Wayne) Kazynski, Kelly (Tim) Sullivan and Stephanie (Jay) Royle; grandchildren, Cory Kazynski, Kayla Kazynski, Cassidy Kazynski, Caden Sullivan, Madisen Sullivan, Isabel Royle and Sophia Royle; great-grandchildren, Carter and Aydin Kazynski. He is also survived by his siblings, Shirley (Gary) Schroeder, Dave (Diana) Wampole, Duanne (Ruth) Wampole, Darrell Wampole, Dan (Marie) Wampole, and Sherry Brooks. He also leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Obituary Preview: Ella Faye (Flenniken) Johnson, (June 2, 1921 – December 11, 2023) made her last journey to join all those that passed before her. (Their gain, our loss).

To all who knew Ella Faye, her personality, her intelligence, her compassion and interest in each person whose path she crossed, is a memory to behold.

Growing up as an orphan at age 10 in Texas, during the depression years, she was raised by grandparents, aunts and uncles. She earned a college degree from Texas Women’s University, Denton, TX and became a teacher—a role she would revisit often.

She turned down a blind date five times with a handsome Marine instrument flight instructor. His proposal was, “Do you think you could live on a farm in Wisconsin?” They married four months later on February 19, 1944, and she became Mrs. Wayne Johnson.

They began a nursery and floral business in 1946 in Westfield, WI. The greenhouses were built with windmill angle iron and wood from beer vats. Later they added a flower shop, Portage Floral in Portage. She was a very skilled florist for over 40 years and continued both businesses after her husband passed in 1971.

Dixie and Dale Spees took over the Westfield business. Ella Faye returned to teaching, first as a substitute teacher at Westfield High, then she had a 20-year career teaching maximum security prisoners at the Federal Correctional Institute-Oxford/Brooks.

Her students graduated with college degrees in Culinary Arts. She cared for them. Their education provided them with skills for careers when they were released. She retired at age 75 to move to Middleton Glen to spend time with her grandson.

Ella Faye was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, American Legion Auxiliary and Westfield Presbyterian Church. Her community service included Wisconsin Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders, Wisconsin Extension Homemakers, and 4-H leader.

Her interests included genealogy of the Dickinson, Flenniken and Buckelew families in Texas. At Middleton Glen her activities included the Flower committee, Genealogy Group, Bingo and being a friend to everyone she met.

She was a strong supporter of Operation Migration, the ultralight migration of Whooping Cranes flying from Wisconsin to Florida. She loved watching Eagle nesting cams. Ella Faye was proficient using computer technology for emails, Facebook and Google searches.

Ella Faye was proud to have traveled to all 50 states and all seven continents. Her trip of a lifetime with her daughters was to the Holy Land in 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean Allen; her husband, Wayne Lee Johnson; and grandson, Austin Johnson-Voice. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Johnson Borders and Mary Ellen Johnson in Madison, WI.

She was born on July 29, 1934, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Harley McKnight and Ellen Wick McKnight. She married William Coats on May 9, 1949. Together they owned and operated Inland Boats for over 50 years. Joan also worked as a travel agent for many years with Monona Travel, where she enjoyed cruising, and one day excursions to her favorite casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. When she was closer to home, she enjoyed going to Ho Chunk Casino with her son Rick.

Joan is survived by her children, Lou (Dave Jones), Vicki Kau, and Owen (Heather) Coats; grandchildren, Jeri Jo Hawkins, Lindsay Lyons, Dillon (Nicole) Kau, Cameron Kau, Kayla (Joe) Kellogg, Ryan and Austin Coats; great-grandchildren, Tehera and Michael Hawkins, Drake Lucas, Connor, Wesley and Levi Kau, Carlee, Cora and Adalyn Coats; sisters-in-law, Margo Doyle McKnight and Susan Simpson, and many nieces and nephews.
