When building teams in Honkai: Star Rail, players always want someone to play as a DPS, a debuffer or a buffer, and a sustain character that protects the team by shielding or healing. Considering the importance of protective support, it's no surprise that versatile units that fit everywhere, such as Huohuo and Luocha, are incredibly popular.
However, healing isn't the only way that players can protect the party. Preservation units like Gepard and Fu Xuan are also great at their job. In version 2.1, a new shielder called Aventurine debuted on the HSR roster. His banner comes after Luocha's rerun, which may cause you to wonder, should you pull for Aventurine or Luocha? Or other questions such as, is Aventurine good? If Honkai: Star Rail players wish to know the answer, they can read on for a summary of both characters.

Aventurine Or Luocha In Honkai: Star Rail
Comparing two sustain characters can be hard, since Aventurine and Luocha do well keeping their teammates alive. However, to decide who to pull for, a comparison should be made considering three main points:
- How easy is it to build them?
- How good is their sustainability?
- How well do they synergize with others?
Build
As a unit following the Preservation path, Aventurine scales with DEF to cast his shield in Honkai: Star Rail team. His shield is unlike any other character before him, as he can stack it and increase its sustain over time. Considering Aventurine’s kit that revolves around shielding, building him with 4pc Knight of Purity Palace is a good start to improve his shielding abilities.
It gets tricky when choosing his Planar Ornaments as he’s versatile enough to carry a couple of them. You can go with Belobog of the Architects for more sustain, Broken Keel and Fleet of the Ageless to give his team a little buff, or Inert Salsotto to increase his damage. It’s also easy to find Aventurine a Light Cone since he scales with his DEF, like most other Preservation units in Honkai: Star Rail.

Honkai: Star Rail – Acheron Build Guide
Acheron is a special Nihility character in Honkai: Star Rail, where her Energy is non-existent, and her damage feels like a Hunt character.
On the other hand, Luocha is an Abundance unit that scales with ATK to heal his team in Honkai: Star Rail. Scaling with ATK isn’t what Abundance units usually do, so most Light Cones are dedicated to increasing the user’s Max HP. However, Luocha’s healing is so good, that he doesn’t need that much ATK to begin with.
As for Relics, going with 4pc Passerby of Wandering Cloud is viable for healers like Luocha. You can also opt to mix 2pc Passerby of Wandering Cloud + 2pc ATK +12% or 2pc Musketeer of Wild Wheat + 2pc Prisoner in Deep Confinement to maximize his ATK. For Planar Ornaments, Space Sealing Station and Fleet of the Ageless are good options to further increase his ATK% or his team's ATK%, respectively.
In terms of Relic and Light Cones, both Luocha and Aventurine are equally easy to build.
Sustain
Both Preservation and Abundance units have the main role of protecting their allies from falling. Each path does it differently, but the concept remains the same. Preservation units cast shields, taunt enemies, and reduce damage taken by the entire team. Abundance units cleanse, heal, and regenerate energy. What actually varies is how each unit tackles sustainability.

Honkai: Star Rail – Dr. Ratio Team Composition Guide
Dr. Ratio can be an amazing Hunt unit, but only if Honkai: Star Rail players put him in the right Dr. Ratio team.
For Aventurine, placing a shield with his Skill and another every time he casts his Follow-up attack is his way of keeping his team protected. As for Luocha, healing, and cleansing are a big part of his kit. Additionally, both units share the same Imaginary AoE attack that can imprison enemies, which is also a type of sustainability.
What players can consider is whether they value shields or healing more. If they prefer the feeling of safety with 100% HP, then Luocha is preferable. But if you're worried about units getting one-shot from 100% HP, then shields may be better. Another thing Trailblazers can also consider is Skill Point consumption. Luocha practically needs zero Skill Points to perform his healing, while Aventurine may need to refresh his shield occasionally.
Synergy
Luocha is a healer who can cleanse allies and imprison enemies without using Skill Points; he generates them instead. He does that by healing the team from his passive and only using Basic Attack most of the time. So, anytime you’re building a team that is heavy on Skill Points and you want some kind of protection, Luocha is your man.

Honkai: Star Rail - Blade Build Guide
Blade can become an exceptionally strong DPS character when built right.
Aventurine can shield his team with his Skill, debuff enemies with his Ult, and trigger follow-up attacks regularly with his passive. This makes him a great choice to pair with follow-up characters or those who depend on debuffers like Acheron and Dr. Ratio. In fact, Aventurine is so good with Dr. Ratio, that he should be a must-have for every Dr. Ratio team in Honkai: Star Rail.
In terms of team synergy, Luocha is more versatile than Aventurine.
