Scattered over the internet are tons of chaffle recipes with flavors like peanut butter, pizza and there’s even a chocolate chaffle. Chaffles are a popular keto waffle recipe made with egg and mozzarella cheese, but they aren’t for everyone, especially if you have a sensitive to dairy, eggs or are a keto vegan. This dairy free keto waffle is a chaffle made without egg or cheese. That means it’s a vegan keto breakfast idea.

Vegan Keto Waffle Recipe - Ketofocus (4)

The main ingredients in these vegan keto waffles are dairy free cream cheese and vegan cheese so this waffle is still considered a chaffle! And it is still thick and crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside just like the original cheese chaffle recipe.

The non-dairy vegan approved cheese and cream cheese, I used in this recipe is by the Daiya brand. They contain no animal, soy, gluten or nuts. It also melts when heated.

Besides the dairy free cheese, I use a flax egg in place of a regular egg.A flax egg is a vegan version of an egg. When flax meal and water are combined let sit for several minutes, the mixture thickens and forms a gel like substance with similar consistency as an egg. The flax eggs provides the same role as a regular egg. It helps give structure to the waffle and holds everything together.

This recipe makes two servings because each waffle is so thick and filling. Top with your favorite sugar free syrup like keto strawberry sauce or even a dollop of whipped coconut cream.

    Waffle makers best for chaffles

If you are wanting to make small waffles, the waffle maker by Dash is very popular and makes the perfect sized chaffles. It will make two chaffles in this recipe.

A larger waffle maker can also be used to make chaffles. This waffle maker by Oster is one of my favorites. It has adjustable heat so you can get your waffle maker really hot in order to crisp up the outside of the chaffle.

When making waffle you can pour the batter in the center of the waffle iron and close it. You don’t need to spread out the waffle batter on your own. The batter will spread out by itself once the waffle iron is closed.

    Waffle topping ideas

Even though these vegan waffles are yummy plain with no toppings, consider adding the following on top:

    • Sugar free berry syrup – add ⅓ cup of berries to a saucepan with 1 tablespoon of erythritol and cook over medium heat until the berries release their juice.
    • Sugar free syrup
    • Coconut whipped cream
    • Coconut chips
    • Keto chocolate chips
    • Nut butters – peanut butter, almond butter or macadamia nut butter keto friendly

    Storage information

Vegan keto chaffles can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. To freeze the vegan waffles, flash freeze each one for 30 minutes by placing them separately on a plate in the freezer. Once hardened, wrap all the egg free chaffles in a Ziploc freezer bag.

To reheat the vegan keto chaffles, place in a toaster or oven to heat through and help crisp up again.

    FAQs

Is it OK to eat chaffles everyday? ›

Eating 1 chaffle is almost 50% of that recommended daily intake. For that reason, I definitely wouldn't refer to them as a health food, but they are not necessarily unhealthy, either. Both cheese and eggs are a great high-quality protein source, and cheese is a great source of calcium.

    More Chaffle Recipes:

Ham and Cheese Chaffles – 1.2 net carbs each. Bacon Cheddar Chaffles – 2.2 net carbs each. Pepperoni Pizza Chaffles – 2 net carbs each. Sausage Jalapeno Chaffles – 1.8 net carbs each.

Why do my chaffles stick? ›

A common question or complaint that we get about chaffles is “Why are my chaffles sticking to the waffle maker?” The reason why your chaffles are sticking to your waffle maker (or your Dash Mini Waffle Maker) is that you are not leaving them in the waffle maker long enough. Chaffles are basically cheese waffles.

Are chaffles good the next day? ›

To store: Chaffles can be stored in the refrigerator, covered. They will keep well for up to 5 days. To freeze: Place leftover chaffles in a ziplock bag and store them in the freezer for up to 6 months. Reheating: Simply pop them in a toaster oven or toaster until crispy.

Why are my chaffles not crispy? ›

Add a pinch of cheese to the baby dash then pour half of your batter, adding another pinch of cheese. This is a little secret that I swear by to ensure that you get an extra crispy chaffle. Now, cook until the light goes off. If you don't have a baby dash with a light, cook for about 3 minutes.

Can chaffles be eaten cold? ›

Serve chaffles hot or cold, but I personally prefer them hot. The recipe yields approximately 2 cheese waffles, it depends on your waffle iron size. If you are making these chaffles for more than one person, double or triple the ingredients.

How many carbs bump you out of ketosis? ›

Eating more than 50 grams of carbs may disrupt ketosis.

With keto diets, however, carb restrictions vary from person to person. Some people can eat more and still stay in ketosis, whereas others may need to restrict their carb intake more in order to stay in ketosis.

How many carbs keep you out of ketosis? ›

A person on the keto diet should limit their carb intake to up to 50 g a day. A person generally replaces high carb foods with fatty foods, such as eggs, dairy products, and fresh meat and fish. Wheat products and some fruits, vegetables, beans, and legumes can be high in carbs, so checking food labels is key.

How many carbs is ketosis? ›

What is the difference between a waffle maker and a chaffle maker? ›

While chaffles are made with different ingredients than traditional waffles, they are both made in the same machine. The most important feature to look for when buying a waffle maker for chaffles is nonstick plates or griddles.

What do chaffles taste like? ›

Chaffles are waffles made with cheese and eggs; its funny name is a combination of the words “cheese” and “waffle”. Without any sweeteners, they taste like your favorite grilled cheese sandwich but with the texture of a crispy, crunchy waffle.

What kind of waffle maker is best for chaffles? ›

Chaffles are meant to be on the smaller size so a small waffle iron, like the Dash mini waffle maker, works best, but you can also use a regular waffle maker or Belgian waffle iron, too.

Can you put a chaffle in the toaster? ›

Chaffles can be made up ahead of time, wrapped up tightly and stored in the refrigerator until use. Most especially like to do this if they are using these waffles as bread for sandwiches or burgers. To reheat the chaffle, put it in the toaster oven, oven or toaster and reheat to crisp up.

Is it OK to make waffle batter the night before? ›
